LEARNING OUTCOME 5

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP

TRYING ILLUSTRATOR FOR FIRST TIME

Goal

To learn a bit on how to use Illustrator and mainly create a text that has bubbly effect.

Process

Learning:

We had a quick workshop on the tools in Illustrator and how to use them, along with few shortcuts. Despite being a quick overview of the program, it was quite useful information and enough for me to get started with the project I had in mind. Once the lesson was over I immediately went off to watch some extra tutorials on how to make a text look bubbly with some shiny texturing.

First time playing with it:

Once I watched few tutorials I set off to do it myself. What I had as a inpsiration for this one was the oldschool, y2k type of aesthetic text, and of course it also has to be blue.

Result

With the help of the workshop and tutorials I managed to create something I envisioned. I managed to create a very weird looking blue bubbly text that makes you ask "why". It was very ugly but beautiful, at the same time, in my eyes.

Reflection

How did it go:

I was satisfied with the work I did, when keeping in mind I have never touched Illustrator before. And also once I had the text done I got so inpsired to do a y2k website aesthetic (which for a moment was a theme for my personal portfolio)

What did I learn:

Basics for Illustrator

What I would do differently next time:

I would have tried playing a bit more with the texture of it and make it more glossy and metalic.

MY GOAL FOR THE FUTURE

Goal

I really want to build up as much experience as I can in making pixel art and making some games throughout my study here and eventually make my own small mini-game with my own characters and friends. This would be as a personal project for the future me but also build up a portfolio once I get qualified or good enough to start working for actual indie companies. Some games I really take some inspiration from are Stardew Valley, Animal Royale, Terraria, Hades, Undertale.

Process

How it beggan:

My 1st semester at Fontys I randomly decided to dip my toe into the pixel art area, which I ended up loving. I have always been a fan of the oldschool aesthetics but also it helps me exceed that cartoony feel I have always wanted to exceed but was't able to. Lots of my work during the first semester I am pretty proud of when it comes to my artistic side especially. When I did pixel art for the first time then it felt like fitting the right shoe size and right type of shoe (don't know how else to explain it). Here are some of my first pixel arts:

Pixel art these days:

I have been doing some pixel art in my freetime just to try and see if it really is my thing and with each one I just get more and more excited. I am still in the exploring many pixel art styles, different ways to shade, to outline, to colour and so on. Here are some of the more recent ones:

Companies I want to work in:

This might sounds silly but I have been loving the side games RiotGames have been launching, capturing a lore I love so much in always different ways. One of the games they made was exactly a pixelart top-down game which I was obsessed with,, which is called "The Mageseeker". That would be the end goal for me as for the meantime I would be happy to work as a freelance pixel art artist for animation or games.

TEAM ROLE

Goal

Relfect on myself and how I have been operating in teams/groups with all of that information based on some feedback from people and professors.

Positives and Negatives

Positive:

  • From what people say I am very creative and always full of ideas. If someone is having a problem when it comes to the creativeness, they alawys would come and ask me for help or opinion. And most of the time the peer-feedback I would give them, they find useful.
  • Another positive about me is my sense of humour. That is one of my traits that I am aware of myself as well. All of my classmates, group members and even professors, do acknowledge that I have very diverse and adaptive sense of humour. Along with that I am always the guy who is trying to bring the positive vibe in the group, especially if someone is feeling down.
  • Another one is I will always find a way to make something work and if i sit down and manage to focus I get very big portion of the work done.

Negative:

  • One thing that I am self-aware of but also always reminded by other people is how indecisive I am. Especially when it comes to my own aesthetics/visuals. I would switch my opinions and views on the same thing multible times.
  • I postpone quite a lot and leave work at the last moment. That is a very bad habbi of mine that I am still working on but I just always get distracted even if I try sitting down and trying to work on something. Which in university is even worse because of the possibility of communicate/talk with people there. I am hoping as I progress through this university I am going to build up better discipline and be more responsible when it comes to my work and what's needed to be done, without leaving them for the last moment.
  • As much as I can be funny person to be around, when people try to focus and do their work, I sometimes end up disturbing them.

Result

I am a person who can bring up the mood and always help someone else when it comes to the creative side, but when it comes to myself I would be overly picky with my own stuff and I would be focused too much on that and not moving forwards and doing some more work I should be doing. Despite me being delusional person who always tries to make the situations/stuff positevly, it does sometimes build up and ends up badly.

Reflection

How did it go:

I have quite big flaws I really need to work on if I want to succeed not only in uni but in life. I need to get more responsible and be more of a realist.

What I would do differently next time:

I would try make a schedule for the days and the weeks of which time I should be doing what. Every day little by little is much better than postponing it for a while and having a bunch of work for little time-span.

TRYING BLENDER FOR FIRST TIME

Goal

I had as a goal to make an updated version of the text I created in Illustrator. I wanted to make it more like liquid metalic which would fit more into the y2k aesthetic.

Process

Learning:

I was going to watch a tutorial but ended up asking a friend who is working in that field to run through some basics I should know along with mandatory hotkeys. Once the quick lessons was over I went on by myself and tried to do some metalic text in the dummest way possible. I started with an actual text with a font that seemed fitting once it would be transformed in liquid.

Result

I sadly couldn't do the exact thing I had in mind with the very fresh and small knowledge I had. I did manage to make it metalic but couldn't play with the actual shape and liquify it/more distorted.

Reflection

How did it go:

I was satisfied with the work I did, when keeping in mind I have never touched Illustrator before. And also once I had the text done I got so inpsired to do a y2k website aesthetic (which for a moment was a theme for my personal portfolio)
