GMC PROJECT PLANNING

Goal

Creating a plan on the steps to complete the project, in which includes laying out timelies, goals/deliverables, assigning the different tasks to the team members, milestones. With a nice plan management the flow of the teamwork would flow easier and clear.

Process

Brainstorming:

Everyone in the team immediately started brainstorming so we have at least a base of what kind of deliverables we want to give, who is our target audience, what is the exact issues we are have to fix, what can we keep and what not. Having already some of these set up, it would help us with deviding the tasks to the members. One of the deliverables were a new brand identity which includes colours, logo, voice of tone, typography, visuals, and create a brandguide for the client to use for future plans. With these we had to make a website prototype with that new brand identity, keeping all the information that their ,current at the time then, webstie has. Another few things we had to make were content strategy and planning, posters, and guidence on how to use a website creator.

Distribution:

After knowing what are most of the deliverables we started distributing work. The stuff I really wanted to do were Colour Research, Logo Designs, Posters, website prototype, which I end up being given as tasks.

Planning:

For planning and task deviding we used Notion. A website used to help organise work on which you can display the status, people asigned to the task, due, priority and a small summary spot. Along with that you can import files with easy access for the others to see when needed.

Result

As a team we ended up faving a clear understanding of who is doing what and till when. When it comes to myself, I got asigned tasks I really wanted to do mostly, and was open for any extra tasks if needed. I got mostly tasts related with creativity on which I wanted to really explore more, especially logo design.

Reflection

How did it go:

It went pretty fast. The whole process took few hours and just in a day we managed to get the nice project plan. The brainstorming part was a bit tough at the beginning because of everyone having ideas.

What did I learn:

It was my first time hearing about Notion and I actually really liked it. That is a thing I see myself using myself more in the future. Also it was my first time experiencing a good team work from the very beginning.

What I would do differently next time:

I would have taken some more researches tasks, as well as some that has to do with some user testing. I really was neglecting them at the beginning and then I started regreting not picking up something more than just creativity.

GMC COLOUR RESEARCH

Goal

Create a colour palette that represents perfectly the future GMC brand identity, with keeping in mind target audience, the feeling they want to express, and of course looking Aesthetically pleasing. All of that had to be supported by a research for a strong base as on our decisions and why we has chosen those colours.

Process

Research:

I started by looking at the original GMC website had (at that time) as a colours happening in there, which turned out to be mostly just white with a very small touch of pink. After seeing that there is no inspo I can take from the website I started completely from the very 0. Because of having such freedom when it comes to colour picking, I started with the research on what colours that included what each colour represents what and which feeling people connect it with. After doing some research on what each colour represents I had few colours I had my eyes on which were blues, greens and purple.

Colours seeking:

Once I had few colours I could use as a guide and base for the palette I went on a website called "Coolors" which can create random colour palettes. I had as an idea to have a very light cream clour as a base for the background, which represents the music paper. Because of the base being more on the muted side of colours, when looking for the rest I had to keep in mind that they also had to be muted so they can go along well.

COOLORS

Result

I made three colour palettes based on a research I have made. Explaining each palette what it represents and what stands for. In the end it ended up being more of a proposal than a research because there was also selling points. By that I tried explaining the chosen colours with a bit more depth so our client would make deeper connectiong with them, instead of just saying "this colour represents this feeling".

RESEARCH

Reflection

How did it go:

It did not went as I had in mind at first, definitely underestimated the task. It was one of the most poor tasks I have done so far in uni and felt pretty dissapoined. Thankfully in the end I did manage to create a palette that was liked by the client and the audience.

What did I learn:

The fact that coming up with colours that work together, represents the brand, connects with the audience, is much harder than I thought. Another thing that was more of like realissation was that I really had hard time making a proper research and that my construction of it was terrible.

What I would do differently next time:

I would explore with not just on type of colours, instead of just muted I would have tried go for more bright or pastel colours as well to see just which one would work the best for the client and the audience with trying to find a better middleground. Another thing that I definitely would have done differently is how many colours I would have in the palette. I would have done also 2-3 colours and go pass that number only if the client insist on that. Another thing I would change is my research construction, it is so poor and short.

GMC MIDWAY PRESENTATION

Goal

To showcase what we have done so far for this sprint. Discuss how we are planning to proceed in the future and what else is yet to be done, as well as get some feedback on the stuff we have already and if there is anything needed to be changed.

Process

Presentation:

The structure of the presentation was pretty simple and straight forward, in this sprint we wanted to show all of our researh so far because we have barely started on any visuals. I did however made already the colour theory and the logo designs, therefore I had as a task to talk about them on the presentation itself. Another part that was asigned to me was the start of the presentation.

Result

I gave a bit more explanation on the colours and which one we suggest them they should go for. As for the logos, I got some feedback on them, what they like and don't like on the logos and what they would like to see.

Reflection

How did it go:

The presentation went pretty good! I was so happy with how I presented and also even more happy with the feedback I got, especially for the logos. Reason being is becasue I started without them having any idea of what they wanted, and now they finally gave me some direction I should aim for.

What I would do differently next time:

I would pracitce a bit more presenting on my own and with the group beforehand like at least a day, unlike this one where each of us did most of the practice hour before the actual presentation.

GMC FINAL PRESENTATION

Goal

To showcase all the deliverables we promised in our project plan, which were also mentioned during the midway presentation. To have a go through their new brand identity we have come up for them, new website prototype and the media guide.

Process

Presentation:

The structure of the presentation was as a continuation of the first sprint, and on this one we added all of the new things that they haven't seen yet. I once again took the task to show the updated logo designs based on their feedback, go over the colours and the slight adjustment I have made so it fits better on bigger scale, as well as portion of presenting the prototype itself. One thing that I was stressing about for the presentation was the logo. From the logos I have provided them, they have chosen one that they don't want to be accociated with, which is a brand for cars also called GMC. I had to give them my professional opinion, along with some results from user testing, that the decision they are making about the logo might be not the way they wanted to be presented.

Result

I explained a bit more about our changes and the reasons behind them, and also gave a professional opinion and risked going against the client's choice but for the better.

PRESENTATION

Reflection

How did it go:

It went great! I felt proud of the work I have done and the way I presented, except in the end that I did a small mistake by calling the reasoning in the colours looking so brihgt (more specifically the cream looking like white) was because of the screen.

What I would do differently next time:

When it comes to presenting the logos, next time I would highlight each element of it showing what it represents so the client sees what we are going for (that is if the logo desing is on the abstract side). Another thing I would do differently is when presenting the colours, and they look different on the big screen than on laptop, I would print the colours out, as well as make a seperate variant which is gonna be displayed on the big screen, that looks close to what you would usually see from a laptop or computer monitor.

FONTYS ICT MEDIA CAMPAIGN PLANNING

Goal

To create a plan with the needed steps to complete the project, in which includes laying out timelies, goals/deliverables, assigning the different tasks to the team members, milestones. With a nice plan management the flow of the teamwork would flow easier and clear.

Process

Brainstorming:

During one of the coach sessions with Metaxas, he thought us how to make a proper Research planning, explaining each progress and how more and more research questions would appear this way. Because of that I decided to take the lead when it comes to the planning. I grabbed a white board and started off with writing many questions related to our project/end goal. Once we had a good amount we seperated them in four different themes and tried to combine all of the questions in each themes into one big/main one. This way we had four main research questions that we could devide to people. Along with those four, we added another fifth question that was going to be started after the first sprint. Along with the questions we had section where we wrote what methods are we going to use for each research as well as what are going the be the delieverables from each one.

Distribution:

I tried implememnting the group planning from my last group project in GMC, which was using Notion for our plannign. There I wrote down each member which research they are doing. The tasks I got asigned was the research question "How can Fontys ICT communicate efficiently its identity, profiles and values?"

Result

As a team we ended up faving a clear understanding of who is doing what and till when. When it comes to myself, I was open to any of the research questions so I just let everyone else pick first and then I picked the one that was left.

Reflection

How did it go:

It went better than I thought, we worked pretty fast and eveyone seemed happy with this type of planning. Felt very proud of implememnting the Metaxas way. Also it was my first time taking some leadership and I think I did pretty good job as a first time.

What did I learn:

Learned how to plan research questions and the steps I should go through to achive the goals. Another thing I learned is that if I need to take the initiative and take a lead, I can do so.

FONTYS ICT RESEARCH

Goal

To write down a research about "How can Fontys ICT communicate efficiently its identity, profiles and values?"

Process

Introduction:

This research I based on the DOT-framework methods, more specifically Field and Library. This study is about how Fontys ICT improve communicating its own identity, profiles and values. In the dynamic landscape of higher education, institutions like Fontys ICT face the ongoing challenge of effectively communicating their identity, academic profiles, and values to international future students. As the University seeks to maintain relevance and competitiveness in this field of ICT, efficient communication of its identity, profiles and values becomes very important.

Research Conclusion:

Fontys ICT Eindhoven embodies core values of excellence, innovation, collaboration, diversity and ethics. Through a multi-channel branding approach, including its website, social media, partnerships, and events, Fontys ICT effectively communicates its identity and offerings. By leveraging targeted advertising and engaging marketing campaigns, Fontys ICT attracts prospective students and promotes its academic profiles, reinforcing its position as a leader in ICT education and research.

Result

With a bit of looking up in internet how to structure all of the information I had gathered and got, I finished the research in a much better structure than I used to do before.

RESEARCH

Reflection

How did it go:

It went much better than my last research. Gathering the information for the research itself wasn't that hard either because there were quite a few websites who already have talked about it, and of course some ChatGPT.

What did I learn:

Learned how to structure my researches better, in a way where if u need a specific part you can just scroll to that part isntead of going through it all trying to search for it.

FONTYS ICT MIDWAY PRESENTATION

Goal

To showcase what we have done so far for this sprint. Discuss how we are planning to proceed in the future and what else is yet to be done, as well as get some feedback on the stuff we have already and if there is anything needed to be changed.

Process

Presentation:

On this presentation I once again was starting, along with that I was the one who was discussing about some of the ideas about the media campaign and the videos we have in mind to make for FONTYS ICT social medias. I shared my idea of doing some funny videos for each profile that is gonna be relatable in a sense so outsiders would get some view of what it actually is studying that profile.

"Jokes":

  • I am a media design student, of course first thing I do in uni is to grab coffee
  • I am a media design student, of course Figma is my best friend
  • I am a media design student, of course I have nightmares about comic sans
  • I am a media design student, of course I would never tell my ways (shhh)
  • I am a media design student, of course I make my portfolio as hard as possible
  • I am a media design student, of course I judge people based on their favourite font
  • I am a media design student, of course I remake posters and restaurant menus in my head
  • I am a media design student, of course I cry after my feedback sessions
  • I am a media design student, of course everyone thinks I am gay
  • I am a media design student, of course everyone thinks I am lazy
  • I am a media design student, of course my creativity comes at 2am
  • I am a media design student, of course

Result

I gave explanation of what we are planning on doing for their social media and the jokes we have already planned for Media Design profile, and as for the other profiles it would be pretty much similar ones.

Reflection

How did it go:

The presentation went pretty fast. The client seemed to really like the direction we were going for, especially the videos! Along with that I got some more information as to what exactly they are trying to achieve and got some inspiration from some other groups for few new ideas.

What did I learn:

It was then when I realised that listening to other groups feedback and them giving some ideas, really helps me also come up with inspired ideas, in a sense not copying them but going in a different direction from they want to go.

What I would do differently next time:

Write down all of the ideas I have, despite them sounding hilarious and absurt, because in the end the client was saying she was really open for ANY idea, no matter if they are stuped or not. Sometimes some good ideas can be born from such.

PROJECT X PLANNING AND RESEARCH

Goal

Creating a plan for Project X on what do I want to do for this project, come up with a research question and do the actual planning on at what time do I want parts of my project done, and mention who is my Mentor.

Process

Description:

I am doing a cartoony Pixel art animation which is going to be 16bit tiles, implemented in a website with some HTML, CSS and JS to make it like a top-down RPG game with my own character that I already have. What I am planning is to have a room/dorm where my character would be in and be able to walk around his room. For the animation parts I plan on having the character tail moving back and forth, a simple waking animation, a cozy lights blinking in warm light, laptop screen, few candles.

Research Question:

For my reasearch question I was thinking what is the main thing I need to know when it comes to doing top-down pixel art and pixel art in general

RESEARCH

Planning:

  • Start a basic sketch of the room, items and my character. (first few days)
  • Start with basic pixel sketch of the room chosen. (first few days)
  • Once we have room ready and the whole one frame done, I will do some basic colouring with no shading or texture. (first few days)
  • Start animating the room between 4-6days.
  • Implement it in a website with some JS being able to walk around (a week or two).
  • User-test to see if people can move freely around the room, as well as find the interactable parts (as soon as the website gets ready)

Result

I had a plan that I would follow for the upcoming weeks which would help me do my personal Project X with a mentor being Chris.
